What is Public?

Public is a stocks tool that builds AI agents that trade and manage cash inside your brokerage account. AI Agents on Public.com turn plain language instructions into recurring, rules-based workflows that monitor markets, execute trades and move cash inside a self-directed brokerage account.

Public's AI Agents are a set of programmable, rules-based workflows that run inside a Public.com brokerage account. Rather than a standalone chatbot that spits out advice, an Agent is a recurring instruction set that monitors market data and executes trades when your stated conditions are met. You describe the task in plain language, the system drafts a workflow, and you approve it before anything goes live. The build process has two entry points. Typing a prompt gets you a proposed workflow that the AI refines by asking about account, position size and timing, and you can keep editing through follow-up prompts. Alternatively, a marketplace of ready-made Agents spans five investing categories covering marketing monitoring, trading strategies, fund management, risk management and portfolio research. Sample blueprints include trimming a fixed dollar amount from tech holdings each week, rotating idle cash into the highest yield account on the first of the month, or buying energy stocks when a crude oil ETF spikes. Certain listed capabilities are marked as not yet available, so the marketplace is partly aspirational. This is aimed at self-directed investors who already know roughly what they want to do and would rather automate the trigger than watch charts. The tool is explicitly not a robo advisor: Public states that agent output is informational and that you alone are responsible for the strategy. Agents also handle research, pulling from roughly 30 years of earnings, financials and price data plus real-time quotes, and can answer questions about your actual holdings because they are wired to your portfolio. The differentiator is architecture. Agents live inside your authenticated account, so there are no API keys to generate and no third-party platform in the middle. That allows instant execution and direct access to live pricing across stocks, ETFs, options and crypto. Against conventional broker conditional orders, the appeal is broader logic: sentiment checks, macro triggers and multi-step cash movements in one workflow. Accounts open without a code requirement, which puts the tool in intermediate territory rather than beginner, since the quality of the automation depends entirely on how precisely you write the rules.

How do you use Public?

  1. 1Open a Public.com account
Agents operate inside an authenticated brokerage account, so sign up and complete identity verification before anything else. Cryptocurrency services are provided by Zero Hash LLC rather than the broker entity.

  3. 3Write and refine the prompt
Enter your instruction in plain language. The AI evaluates it and asks for missing details such as account, position size and timing, then returns a proposed workflow you can adjust with follow-up prompts.
  4. 4Review and approve the workflow
Read through the proposed steps and parameters, change anything that does not match your intent, and activate the Agent only when satisfied.
  5. 5Monitor the activity feed and ledger
Check the log of actions taken, including checks that failed your criteria, and expand any executed transaction for full order details.
  6. 6Use Agents for research too
Query an Agent about a specific asset, your current exposure or a hypothetical trade scenario before committing capital to an automated rule.
