What is Ubel?

Ubel is a comeback generator tool. A novelty web app where Coda AI plays a rude recruiter at the fictional Omnicorp Inc. You pick a role, submit a short cover letter, and get back a sarcastic auto-generated rejection letter. Built for laughs, not for real job search advice, and published as a remixable Coda template.

Ubel is a fictional recruiter persona built on top of Coda AI, and the joke is the whole product. Visitors land on a mock hiring page for Omnicorp Inc., a made-up company that claims to be hiring across a strange spread of roles: Software Engineer, Head of Marketing, Janitor, Chief Comedy Officer, or any position the applicant types in. You fill in a short application form, write a cover letter of two to three paragraphs, and submit. Within a moment an automated rejection letter arrives, written in the voice of a recruiter who has clearly run out of patience with job applications. The tool is a humor piece rather than a job search utility. It sits in the same territory as other AI roast bots and novelty generators, and the creators are upfront that the personality is deliberately mean. The site even warns applicants not to take the output personally, noting that the reply is auto-generated by an AI that knows nothing about them. Part of the appeal is the framing: the form is styled as a real application, complete with a nudge against submitting AI-written letters, which makes the eventual roast land a little harder. That tone is the draw and the limit. The output is tuned for comedy, so it is useful for entertainment, workplace banter, and a quick laugh with friends, not for feedback you could act on to improve a real application. Applicants who want constructive critique of their cover letter should look at general writing assistants instead. The site is open to anyone who wants to test it, and the creators explicitly welcome made-up names, so there is no need to submit real personal details. The application is built as a Coda doc, and the creators have published it as a template that others can copy and remix with their own prompts and branding. The project began as an entry in Coda's AI at Work Challenge hackathon. The creators submitted several Coda AI projects at once, including a respectful rejection letter generator, and describe the roast version as the one built to attract attention. It is a small, self-contained demo of what a Coda doc with AI steps can do, wrapped in a joke about recruiting.

How do you use Ubel?

  1. 1Open the application page
Go to the Ubel site, which presents itself as the Omnicorp Inc. hiring page with a short introduction to the recruiter persona.

Pick one of the listed positions such as Software Engineer, Head of Marketing, Janitor or Chief Comedy Officer, or type your own desired role.

  4. 4Write and submit your cover letter
Draft two to three paragraphs on why you want the job and why you fit, then submit the form. The site asks for concise letters and says it dislikes AI-written ones.
  5. 5Read the roast
Wait for the automated rejection letter, which Coda AI composes from your submission in the recruiter's sarcastic voice.
  6. 6Remix the template if you build with Coda
