What is Hygraph?

Hygraph is a headless content platform that structures content as a knowledge graph and exposes it to AI agents through a hosted MCP Server with permission scoping, provenance tracking and brand or legal review gates.

Hygraph positions its content platform as a knowledge layer for agentic AI. Instead of storing pages as loose blocks of text, it models content as connected, traceable entities with explicit relationships and taxonomy, which is the shape a retrieval system or an LLM agent can reason over without a cleanup pass. The hosted MCP Server is the single governed door agents walk through: Claude, Cursor, VS Code, Antigravity and custom-built agents query and act on real content rather than guessing from unstructured files. In practice, teams connect the places where content already lives. Google Docs and Notion pages are ingested and structured into the graph, then served to retrieval and vector pipelines through webhooks or the API. Governance sits on top: agents read, write and publish only inside permissions a human defined, every entity traces back to its source document and page, and brand or legal review gates what can ship for humans and AI alike. Hygraph states that customer content is not used to train its own models or anyone else's. AI Assist handles enrichment such as improvement and translation within those guardrails, running on AWS Bedrock. Technical teams get structured entities and permission-scoped agent actions. Content teams get approval workflows and the promise that approved quotes and proof points reproduce exactly rather than being paraphrased. It suits organisations preparing for conversational and companion-style interfaces that pull from owned content, and it competes with headless CMS platforms that bolt AI on as a writing feature rather than exposing governed access to the content model itself. Limits are worth noting. Hygraph does not provide built-in chunking, tokenization or vectorization, so retrieval pipelines are assembled with your own model stack via the MCP server. Validation against external sources such as Confluence is not available today, and AI Assist cannot yet swap in your own model.

How do you use Hygraph?

  1. 1Review the AI and automation capabilities
Start on the AI and automation page to see how the knowledge graph, MCP Server and governance controls fit together before touching a content model.
  2. 2Model your content as entities
Define entities, relationships and taxonomy so content is machine-readable by design. The content modeling pages explain how to build once and reuse across surfaces.
  3. 3Plan for multiple brands and regions
If you operate globally, review the content architecture guidance so structure scales without duplicating entries across markets.
  4. 4Set permissions and review gates
Configure roles so AI agents only read, write and publish within defined boundaries, and attach brand or legal approval to what ships.
  5. 5Connect an agent through the MCP Server
Point Claude, Cursor, VS Code or a custom agent at the hosted MCP Server, then confirm queries return real content from the graph within your permissions.

Watch the on-demand session covering Claude plus Hygraph MCP workflows to see which patterns save time before rolling out to the wider team.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Content is modelled as connected entities, so agents get structured input instead of scraped textAI
  • Hosted MCP Server connects Claude, Cursor, VS Code and custom agents through one governed endpointAI
  • Permission-scoped read, write and publish actions keep agents inside human-defined boundariesAI
  • Every AI-retrieved answer traces back to its source document and pageAI
  • Ingests Google Docs and Notion content and feeds retrieval pipelines via webhook or APIAI

Cons

  • No built-in chunking, tokenization or vectorization, so retrieval plumbing is your responsibilityAI
  • AI Assist runs on AWS Bedrock only, with no bring-your-own-model option yetAI
  • External validation against sources like Confluence is not supported todayAI
  • Enterprise-oriented sales process means pricing is not published for evaluationAI
  • Agent value depends on disciplined content modelling up front, which is real setup workAI
