Learn moreLaTeX-aware AI for tables, equations, error fixes and academic prose

Overleaf is a scientific tool. Overleaf AI adds LaTeX table and equation generation, TeXGPT code help, compile error fixes and Writefull academic language feedback to the Overleaf editor, with a free daily allowance and larger limits on paid plans.
Overleaf AI is the set of AI features built into the Overleaf online LaTeX editor, combining tools made by Overleaf with language assistance from Writefull. It targets researchers, students and academic authors who write in LaTeX and want help with both the code and the prose, without leaving the editor where their project already lives. On the code side, a table generator and an equation generator produce LaTeX from a plain text prompt or an image, which suits the tedious job of typesetting complex tables and formulas. TeXGPT can draft figures and other LaTeX code, outline a document, build skeleton files, explain content and tidy formatting. Error Assist reads compile errors, explains what went wrong, proposes a fix and can apply it on request. The vendor states it only handles LaTeX coding errors, so problems such as compile timeouts may need separate attention, and highly customised code can produce more generic suggestions. On the language side, Writefull's models are trained on published research and give context-aware feedback on grammar, spelling, word choice and sentence structure. A paraphrase tool rewrites selected text, summarises long paragraphs, checks synonyms and drafts abstracts and titles. Suggestions can work in languages other than English once the relevant GPT model is selected. In practice, the features are switched on in account settings, which grants a limited daily allowance for free. Quotas are per feature and can take up to 72 hours to reset, and buying an Overleaf plan raises the allowance. Some features rely on third-party services such as OpenAI, and users are asked for consent the first time content is sent out. The vendor says project data is not used for training, and users choose how much AI support to use, which helps when an institution or publisher restricts it. Among alternatives, general chatbots can also write LaTeX, but Overleaf AI sits inside the compile and collaboration workflow, which removes the copy and paste step. Its scope is narrower than a general assistant, focused on academic LaTeX writing.
