What is Realms of Shod?

Realms of Shod is a browser based tabletop RPG workspace that combines a persistent world compendium with live session transcription, scene recaps, session summaries and entity extraction. Groups play with voice, video, chat and dice tools inside a shared realm, and a Discord bot plus MCP access connect the world to outside tools.

Realms of Shod is a web workspace for tabletop roleplaying groups that treats the campaign as a persistent world rather than a series of disconnected sessions. At its centre is a shared realm: a compendium of entities, relationships and notes that multiple gamelords and multiple parties can build on over time. Session tools sit alongside it, including voice and video, party chat, a dice roller, image sharing and character sheets, so a group can schedule and play inside the same place where its lore lives. The premium layer is where the AI work happens. Live transcription turns spoken sessions into searchable transcripts organised by scene, and automated scene recaps and session summaries produce catch-up material for anyone who missed a night. Entity and quest extraction push new people, places and plot threads into the compendium as play proceeds, and a Gardener process updates descriptions as scenes close. Every change is recorded in the entry history and can be rolled back, and description auto-sync can be switched off per realm. Separate from sessions, a social sandbox gives players creative briefs to explore a character's backstory, and a rumor mechanic feeds absent participants an in-character hint rather than a plain summary. The tool is aimed at groups running long campaigns across rotating schedules: game organisers, multi-table gamelords, and clubs of up to 48 collaborators per realm. It does not act as an AI dungeon master and it is not tied to one ruleset. Play can stay on Discord through a session bot, and the compendium is exposed through a public API and the Model Context Protocol so external AI assistants can query it. Against plain recording and note tools, the differentiator is persistence: one realm accumulates history across campaigns and one-shots instead of resetting. The recurring coin system, which meters transcription, recaps and extraction, is the main practical trade-off to weigh.

How do you use Realms of Shod?

  1. 1Create a realm and claim the signup bonus
Register on the site and set up your first realm. New accounts start on the free Squire tier with a 100 coin signup bonus to trial the premium features.
  2. 2Invite the party with a realm code
Share the realm's unique code so players can join directly. Up to 48 collaborators can work in one realm, asynchronously or in split groups.
  3. 3Seed the compendium with entities
Add the places, factions and characters your world already has. Each entity carries its own visibility settings, so hidden threads stay with the people you choose.
  4. 4Connect the Discord bot
If your group already plays on Discord, install the session bot so transcription and session capture happen in the server you use rather than a separate tab.
  5. 5Play and let transcription run
Start a session with live transcription enabled. When it ends, transcripts are grouped by scene and recaps, summaries and extracted entities are generated for review.
  6. 6Open the world to an AI assistant over MCP
Add the MCP connection to Claude or ChatGPT to query relationships, recover lost characters and trace broken plot threads across the compendium.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Keeps one persistent realm across campaigns, so compendium entries and history carry over instead of resetting each timeAI
  • Transcription is organised by scene and searchable, which makes locating old dialogue far quicker than scrolling a group chatAI
  • Automated recaps and session summaries handle continuity, and absent players receive in-character rumors rather than spoilersAI
  • Compendium edits are reversible: every change lands in entry history and description auto-sync can be disabled per realmAI
  • Data portability is real, with compendium export between realms, a public API and MCP access for outside AI assistantsAI

Cons

  • Transcription, recaps and entity extraction all draw on coins, so heavy or frequent sessions will exhaust the monthly allowance and push groups toward top-upsAI
  • The free tier covers communication and world building only, which means the features most people come for sit behind a paid planAI
  • The concept space is large (realms, compendium, gamestream, sandbox, backrooms), and onboarding a casual player takes real effortAI
  • Automatic entity extraction can add noise to a compendium, and reviewing or rolling back changes is manual work for the gamelordAI
  • No native mobile apps are listed, so play at the table depends on a browser session or the Discord botAI
