Swoony

Swoony is a web and app platform for chatting with AI boyfriends and dark romance characters. Users pick a trope-driven character or build their own, and a read-his-mind feature reveals his thoughts. Messages are stated as free.

Swoony is a web-based AI companion platform built around male romance characters. Instead of a single generic chatbot, visitors browse a large gallery of ready-made boyfriends, each framed by a short scenario and a pair of trope tags such as slow burn, forbidden love, possessive, protector, enemies to lovers, mob boss, billionaire or single dad. Starting a chat drops the user into that scenario, whether it is a stepbrother situation, an arranged marriage, a bodyguard on his last week or a vampire who is starved for her. The pitch is control over who the partner is. Users can pick a type they are drawn to or build a character themselves, and the site promises a "read his mind" feature that exposes what the character is thinking alongside what he says. Characters show a heart count that works as a rough popularity signal, and the gallery can be filtered through trope links. The interface is available in English, Spanish and Portuguese, and the catalog includes characters written in Portuguese as well as English. Alongside Characters there is a Stories section, and a separate Swoony app is offered through a download page. On pricing, the homepage states that messages are free and that no subscription is required. It does not spell out what, if anything, is paid, so buyers should check the app and account screens before assuming everything is included. The catalog leans heavily into dark romance, so many scenarios involve possessive, morally grey or forbidden dynamics, which suits readers of that genre more than users wanting a mild conversational friend. Among alternatives, Swoony sits in the AI girlfriend and companion-chat space but targets a different audience: romance readers who want scenario-led fiction with male leads. It resembles character-roleplay platforms more than productivity assistants, and its value rests on the quality of the characters and the thought-reading mechanic rather than on tools, integrations or automation. People who prefer a single persistent companion with voice or avatar features may find the scenario-first design less suited to them.
