Talk Through Time is a browser based chat platform where you hold conversations with simulated versions of historical figures. The roster lists 108 personalities, from Julius Caesar and Joan of Arc to Jane Goodall, Christopher Hitchens and Sigmund Freud, each tagged with a discipline such as Philosophy, Science, Literature, Leadership, Arts or Innovation, plus an era and a short biography. You pick someone from the browse directory or a featured card, open a chat, and type the questions you would put to them if the centuries were not in the way. The distinctive design choice is the two conversation modes. Historical Mode keeps the figure inside the knowledge available during their lifetime, so answers stay period accurate and free of hindsight. Ghost Mode relaxes that rule while preserving the documented personality, which turns the chat into a thought experiment about modern technology, politics or science. A debate feature extends the idea further by letting you set up scenarios in which multiple figures argue different sides of a topic across time periods. The figures are not retrieved quotes. The team researches biographies, letters, speeches and scholarly articles, then writes detailed prompts that steer a large language model toward each person's vocabulary, views and speaking style. That means the output is an interpretation, and the site itself recommends cross checking serious claims against primary sources. Conversations are saved to a learning dashboard that generates summaries, topic tracking and key takeaways, and a gamification layer adds XP, badges, quests and a leaderboard. Access is tiered. Free accounts reach 6 figures with daily chat caps, premium subscribers unlock the full catalogue with higher limits, and an Ultimate tier removes the limits. It sits closest to AI character chat apps and history education tools, but the historical grounding and the study dashboard push it toward classroom and self study use rather than pure entertainment.
