What is AFI Explorer?

AFI Explorer is an AI tool. A mobile and desktop reference app for Air Force publications, with library browsing, in document search, offline saved pubs, and an AFI Intelligence tab that answers plain language questions with the source documents attached.

AFI Explorer is a reference app that puts the Air Force publication library on an iPhone, iPad, Mac or Android device. Instead of hunting through folders or waiting on a browser tab, users browse a catalogue of official documents (AFIs, DAFIs, DAFMANs, AFMANs, handbooks and supplements are all represented) and open the one they need in a built in reader. The library syncs the moment a new version of a publication drops, so the copy on the device matches what is currently in force rather than a stale download from a shared drive. The app is aimed at Air Force personnel who work with regulations daily: supervisors, flight chiefs, superintendents, first sergeants, program managers and anyone else who gets asked a standards question mid shift. Two workflows sit side by side. One is lookup: search the library for a pub by name or subject, open it, search inside the document for a phrase, and share findings without leaving the app. The other is the Answers tab, branded AFI Intelligence, where a plain language question such as a hair standard query returns a response drawn from the relevant publications, with the source documents listed so the reader can check the underlying text before acting on it. Practical touches matter here. Publications can be saved to a personal library of go to references, and saved pubs are cached on the device, so they stay readable when service drops in a hangar, a field environment or a basement office. Answers are trained on the latest pubs to reduce the risk of citing superseded guidance. Compared with generic chatbots, the advantage is scope discipline: the tool answers from the publication set rather than the open web, and it names its sources. Compared with simply bookmarking e-publishing pages, it adds search, offline caching and question answering in one place. The app is built and maintained by an Air Force veteran and is available for iPhone, iPad, Mac and Android.
