Scholarcy

Scholarcy is a research-reading tool that converts long, complex documents into interactive summary flashcards. Instead of reading a full paper, book chapter, article, or video start to finish, a user can generate a structured summary that surfaces key information, findings, and concepts up front, then dig into the original text only where needed. The workflow is organized around five stages: summarize, analyze, organize, synthesize, and apply. Documents can be imported from a wide range of sources — PDFs, book chapters, journal articles, plain text, a Zotero library, Google Drive, or a YouTube link — and Scholarcy generates a flashcard for each one. An "Enhance" control lets the reader adjust how much detail the summary contains, from a single-sentence gist to a fuller researcher-level overview, while a "Spotlight" feature jumps directly to key findings and contributions instead of making the reader hunt through the full text. Smart highlighting and analysis tools help interpret dense passages and show how a given piece of research compares with earlier work in the field. Beyond individual summaries, Scholarcy works as a running research library: flashcards, references, figures, and tables are saved and organized so a reader can refresh their memory before a lecture, seminar, or supervisor meeting without re-reading the source. Notes and annotations can be added directly to flashcards while working through them. For turning accumulated reading into output, flashcards export to formats compatible with common research and productivity apps, including Excel and personal knowledge-management tools, import directly from Zotero for faster screening of large libraries, and can generate a formatted bibliography or push citations to a reference manager in one click. Scholarcy is built for students, academic researchers, and anyone who regularly has to process a stack of papers or reports on a deadline. It sits alongside general-purpose AI summarizers but is differentiated by its academic-specific structure — flashcards, citation export, and Zotero integration — rather than free-form chat summaries, making it a closer fit for literature reviews and coursework than for casual reading.
