What is Earkind?

Earkind is a pipeline that builds full AI podcast episodes from a text list of news and arXiv paper links, using tuned language model prompts, character voices, Azure text to speech and programmatic audio editing with Pydub, plus auto generated titles and timestamped show notes.

Earkind is an experimental podcast production pipeline that turns a plain text file of news items and a short list of arXiv paper links into a complete, produced podcast episode. The project combines language models, expressive neural text to speech and scripted audio editing to output something that sounds assembled rather than dictated: an intro, spoken segments, transitions, a sponsor read, an outro and a generated episode description with timestamps. The workflow is deliberately hands on. A .txt file holds the news the creator wants covered plus three recent arXiv URLs. Titles and abstracts are pulled from arXiv, and further detail is extracted from the raw PDF text through the ChatGPT API. Prompts are written and tuned per section (intro, outro, transitions, sponsor) and per story, using zero or one shot examples depending on how much creative latitude the section needs. Discussion is structured as a conversation between defined characters: Giovani Pete Tizzano, an overhyped but earnest tech enthusiast; Robert, a sarcastic analyst; and Belinda, a witty research specialist. Scripts are parsed for speaker markers, then voiced with Azure text to speech. Audio assembly is handled with Pydub. Jingles, sound effects and background music are mixed with the narration, volumes are adjusted automatically, and sections are overlaid and looped. Because the edit is programmatic, the tool also knows the timing of each segment, which is how the timestamped episode description is generated; titles and the overall blurb come from ChatGPT as well. Earkind suits podcasters who want a repeatable news or research show without booking a studio or co hosts, and technically curious builders who want to inspect and modify a full generation pipeline. The published GPT Reviews feed shows the intended tone: informal, character driven and a little over the top. It is not a hosted studio for uploading your own audio, and the project describes itself as rough, with code release and a deeper design writeup planned.

How do you use Earkind?

  1. 1Check the sample show first
Listen to GPT Reviews on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts or the other linked players to hear the character dynamic, pacing and music before deciding whether the format fits your idea.
  2. 2Prepare your input text file
Write a .txt file with the news items you want covered in plain text and add the URLs of three recent arXiv papers. These become the source material for the episode.
  3. 3Let the system crawl and extract
Titles and abstracts are fetched from arXiv, and additional detail is pulled from the raw PDF text via the ChatGPT API to give each segment enough substance.
  4. 4Generate and parse the scripts
Section and story prompts produce the intro, discussion, transitions, sponsor and outro, written as a conversation between the host and the analyst characters and split on speaker markers.
  5. 5Record and assemble the audio
Each script section is voiced with Azure text to speech, then mixed in Pydub alongside jingles, sound effects and background music with automatic volume balancing.
  6. 6Publish the episode and show notes
The finished episode ships with an auto generated title, overall description and a timestamped rundown taken from the edit timeline, ready for a podcast feed.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Produces a complete episode with intro, segments, transitions, music and outro rather than isolated voice clipsAI
  • Distinct host and analyst characters give the dialogue a personality that plain text to speech lacksAI
  • Timestamped show notes and episode titles are generated automatically from the edit timelineAI
  • Runs from a simple text file of news plus arXiv links, so a recurring show needs minimal manual inputAI
  • The published GPT Reviews feed lets you judge the output quality before investing timeAI

Cons

  • No pricing, signup or hosted interface is described on the site, so access and cost are unclearAI
  • Inputs are narrow: a plain text news list and arXiv paper URLs, with no obvious path for other source typesAI
  • The creator calls the project rough, and code release plus a design writeup are only plannedAI
  • Character voices and humor are preset, which limits control over tone and formatAI
  • Requires comfort with a technical pipeline rather than a point and click editorAI
