What is Glide Apps?

Glide Apps is an app creation tool. Glide AI adds agentic app generation and AI columns to the Glide no-code platform. Teams describe a business system and get a working app with structured data and layout, then use AI steps to transcribe files, extract insights and automate workflows.

Glide AI is the intelligence layer of Glide, a no-code platform for building internal business apps. Instead of assembling screens field by field, you describe the system you need, such as inventory and order tracking, and the Glide Agent generates a working app: it structures the data, lays out the interface and hands back something usable within seconds. The same assistant can pull data from files and run the logic behind your operations. Three capabilities sit alongside the Agent. UI component generation lets you build custom interface pieces through a chat prompt, from interactive cards to sliders and progress bars. File extraction turns audio, images and text into structured records, covering call transcription, contract summaries, deadline flagging and product details captured from photos. Workflow AI steps act on that data: prioritizing urgent support tickets, forecasting stock shortages, drafting personalized customer updates or flagging anomalies in financial reports. The tool is aimed at operations, supply chain, field and project teams inside mid-sized and large companies, not at professional developers. Glide cites more than 100,000 companies using the platform, with named customers including Airbus, Hilton and Coca-Cola. Typical builds map to procurement, warehouse, CRM, work order and vendor management use cases, where the app replaces a spreadsheet plus email chain. Glide AI works with any data source the platform supports, and you add AI by inserting a column into an existing table. It runs on OpenAI, Azure ML and Google Cloud models. Existing apps can adopt it on the Explorer plan or higher, though the Glide Agent is a separate feature from Glide AI, and teams created before the Agent launched do not have access to it yet. Compared with general-purpose coding assistants, Glide trades flexibility for speed and oversight: you get governed, data-bound apps rather than arbitrary code.

How do you use Glide Apps?

  1. 1Sign up and start a build
Create a Glide account and choose the prompt-based start. The builder opens with a description box rather than an empty spreadsheet.

  2. 2Describe the app you need
Write a prompt such as a system to track inventory and orders. Glide Agent structures the tables, designs the layout and returns a working app.
  3. 3Connect your data
Point the app at a data source Glide supports, then review the generated columns and tables against your real records.

  4. 4Add AI columns
Insert a Glide AI column into a table to extract insights from audio, images or text, then set the prompt that shapes the output.

  5. 5Automate with workflow AI steps
Open the Workflow Editor and add Glide AI steps to process data, trigger actions and update records without manual handling.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Agent generates a functional app, including data structure and layout, from a plain-language descriptionAI
  • AI columns slot into existing Glide tables, so intelligence can be added without rebuilding an appAI
  • Built for real business workflows: inventory, procurement, field sales, work orders and CRM are covered by ready use casesAI
  • File extraction handles audio, images and text, covering transcription and document summarization in one placeAI
  • Glide states it never trains on customer data and publishes SOC 2 Type 2, GDPR and CCPA detailsAI

Cons

  • Pricing is not published on the AI page, and AI access depends on Explorer tier or higher, so cost needs a sales conversationAI
  • Glide Agent is separate from Glide AI, and teams created before the Agent launched still lack Agent functionalityAI
  • Model choice is fixed to OpenAI, Azure ML and Google Cloud, with no user-level control over which model runsAI
  • Apps stay inside Glide's structure, so teams needing arbitrary code or custom architecture will hit the ceilingAI
  • Documentation is split between Classic docs and the current product, which can slow down troubleshootingAI
