What is Quaestor Ledger?

Quaestor Ledger is a web-based, read-only personal finance ledger for people with many accounts and currencies. It detects transfers, matches receipts, forecasts cash runway and answers questions through an AI assistant, with a 7-day free trial.

Quaestor Ledger is a browser-based personal finance app aimed at people whose money is spread across many accounts, institutions and currencies. It was built by a single founder who ran 66 accounts at 18 institutions in four currencies and grew tired of apps that mislabeled card payments as spending. The product centers on one morning screen that reports days of cash, net worth and upcoming obligations. The core idea is accuracy in the ledger itself. Transfer detection pairs the debit and credit sides of a movement, such as paying a credit card from checking, and keeps the pair out of spending, burn rate and downstream reports. Each account holds its own currency, net worth rolls up into one chosen main currency at live rates, and past periods keep the rates recorded at the time. Category suggestions show a proposed category with a confidence level instead of requiring rules. Receipts can be photographed, read for merchant, line items, tax, tip and total, and then matched to a transaction. In practice, live bank sync runs through Plaid, read-only, for more than 12,000 institutions in the United States and Canada. Accounts elsewhere come in through CSV or QIF files with a mapping review. A Cash Outlook panel estimates liquid cash runway as a range, with its assumptions listed. An AI chat assistant answers questions from the user's own transactions, receipts and accounts, cannot move money, and is not trained on financial data. A weekly email briefing summarizes the completed week and the outlook. Quaestor Ledger sits alongside Monarch Money, YNAB, Copilot Money, Banktivity and Quicken, and the site publishes a comparison page for each. It suits users with complicated finances, international holdings or many credit cards who value correct reports over simple budgeting envelopes. It runs in any browser on any device, which suits locked-down work machines. The business model is subscription only, with no ads or data sales.
