What is Smart Stack?

Smart Stack is an API finder tool that chats with your stack's real documentation, with sources attached. A documentation Q&A assistant for developers. Pick your technologies from about 200 indexed doc sources and get cited answers grounded in the real, current docs, with web search for the gaps on the Pro plan.

Smart Stack is a documentation Q&A tool for developers who are tired of tab hopping between framework docs, GitHub issues and blog posts. Instead of chatting with a general model that may be working from months old training data, you select the technologies in your project from a curated library of roughly 200 indexed sources, and the assistant answers from that documentation only. The catalogue covers mainstream options such as React, Next.js, Vue, Svelte, Go, Rust, Hono, Tailwind, Drizzle, Cloudflare Workers and PostgreSQL, and you can request missing technologies from the dashboard, where requests drive what gets added next. Setup is deliberately minimal. You pick your stack, and the service handles crawling, indexing and versioning in the background. Release monitoring runs daily across npm releases, GitHub tags and sitemap changes, so when a new version ships the docs are re-crawled and you are chatting with the latest one without doing anything. The interesting part is cross-stack reasoning: if Hono, Drizzle and BetterAuth are all in your stack, a single question about how they integrate is answered against all three sets of docs rather than one at a time. In practice the workflow looks like a normal chat with two extras. Every answer carries citations back to the exact source page, and a Read mode opens that original documentation inline so you can check the surrounding section without leaving the tab. On the Pro plan, answers can also pull in real-time results from GitHub issues, Stack Overflow, release notes, changelogs and RFCs when the official docs run out, which matters most for debugging odd errors and finding workarounds. Image and file inputs let you paste an error screenshot instead of retyping a stack trace. It sits between general AI assistants and plain documentation search. It is narrower than a chatbot like ChatGPT because it will not help with anything outside your selected docs, and smarter than a docs site search because it handles natural language and combines sources. Answers are powered by Google Gemini 3 Flash, conversations are not used for model training, and custom API keys are not supported at present.

  2. 2Build your stack
From the dashboard, choose the technologies your project actually uses. Crawling, indexing and versioning are handled for you, so there is nothing to configure.

  3. 3Ask your first question
Open the chat and describe the problem in plain language, for example how one library behaves when combined with another. Answers are drawn from the docs of every selected technology.
  4. 4Verify with citations and Read mode
Each response lists its sources. Switch to Read to open the original documentation page inline and read the surrounding section before applying the fix.
  5. 5Paste an error or request a technology
Attach an error screenshot or file when describing a bug. If a technology in your stack is not indexed, submit a request from the dashboard for review.
  6. 6Upgrade to Pro when limits bite
Pro raises usage limits roughly fifteen times and adds web search across GitHub issues, Stack Overflow and release notes. It is billed monthly and can be cancelled at any time.
