What is Storyloft?

Storyloft is a web book writing app combining a manuscript editor, the Eddy AI editor, research and citations, worldbuilding, illustration, cover design and print and ebook formatting in one project for fiction and nonfiction authors.

Storyloft is a web-based book writing app that tries to hold the whole production chain of a book in one project. Instead of drafting in a word processor, organizing in a separate manuscript tool, asking a general chatbot for feedback and then moving files into formatting software, an author keeps the manuscript, research, notes, worldbuilding, artwork, covers and final files together. It is aimed at both fiction and nonfiction writers, including beginners, and at authors who publish traditionally or independently. The writing environment is a long-form manuscript editor with chapters, notes, writing goals and a Focus Mode. Beside it sits Eddy, an AI assistant that reads the manuscript, its structure and the author's voice before responding. Eddy gives developmental feedback on plot, character arcs, arguments, pacing and continuity, and it can investigate a topic, check a claim or suggest sources. Saved sources, citations, footnotes and endnotes stay attached to the passages they support, which matters for research-heavy nonfiction such as biography, true crime, philosophy and self-help. Fiction writers get a structured worldbuilding space for characters, locations, factions, magic systems, timelines and relationships, which Eddy can draw on as canon. An illustration tool creates reusable characters and scenes in a consistent book-specific style, and a cover studio handles the jacket. When the draft is ready, automatic formatting produces a paginated print PDF and an EPUB 3 ebook, with controls for trim size, margins, gutters, bleed, running headers and front and back matter. Within the market, Storyloft positions itself as an alternative to the Scrivener plus Google Docs plus Zotero plus formatting-tool stack, and publishes comparison pages against those and against Vellum and Atticus. The tradeoff of that breadth is that each module competes with a specialist product. A set of free planning, page count and metadata utilities, plus a 5,000 word free tier, lets writers test the workflow before paying.

How do you use Storyloft?

  1. 1Start a free manuscript
Open the welcome page to begin a manuscript. The free allowance covers your first 5,000 words and needs no credit card.
  2. 2Draft in the manuscript editor
Write chapters, add notes and set writing goals. Focus Mode keeps the page uncluttered while the rest of the book stays nearby.
  3. 3Bring in Eddy for feedback
Ask Eddy for developmental feedback or research help on a passage. It works from the manuscript and your voice rather than a blank prompt.
  4. 4Build lore and visuals
Record characters, places and rules in the world builder, then create illustrations and a cover that reuse those details.
  5. 5Format for print and ebook
Choose trim size, margins and front matter, then prepare a print-ready PDF and an EPUB 3 ebook from the same manuscript.
