Laper is a browser-based screenwriting environment that pairs a screenplay editor with AI assistance aimed at analysis and planning rather than ghostwriting. The editor formats scene headings, action, character cues, dialogue, parentheticals and transitions automatically, handles pagination, and supports both Hollywood and Asian layouts, so writers spend their time on the scene instead of on margins and indents. Around the draft sits an AI script workspace. A writer can ask it to inspect the current focus, the outline, a selected scene, a range or a bounded full draft, and its tool calls work on screenplay nodes and storyboard context instead of loose text. The AI Script Doctor goes further: it maps the outline, reads the scenes that carry the most weight, and returns prioritized notes on structure, motivation, pacing, character arcs and scene-level problems. The stated philosophy is that the pen stays in the writer's hand, and the product is positioned against generative tools that rush to write the story. Structure is derived from the script itself. Scenes, characters and locations appear as an outline, cards, tables and production canvases, while beats and props sit beside them as planning entities. Character cues become project entities that feed boards, relationship graphs and casting views. On the production side, Laper can generate character portraits, location references, prop images, scene stills and storyboard frames, which are stored as project assets tied to the entity that requested them. A selected scene can also be turned into shot structure and storyboard frames. Collaboration relies on Loro CRDT sync, so writers, directors and producers work from one project state, with script history and saved versions. An optional community library lets authors deliberately publish scripts for public reading and discussion, while private and invite-only projects stay out of it. Laper suits screenwriters, writer-directors and small writers' rooms who want development and pre-production tooling attached to the draft. Writers who only need a plain formatter, or who want an AI that drafts prose for them, may find other tools a closer match.
