What is MediaFind?

MediaFind is an audio analysis tool that finds any moment in your video, audio and photos, entirely on your own machine. A local-first desktop app that indexes your video, audio, photos, chats and notes, then lets you search, ask questions and cut clips without uploading anything.

MediaFind is a desktop application that indexes video, audio and photos on your computer and makes all of it searchable. Point it at a folder and it transcribes speech with word-level timestamps, labels speakers, pulls on-screen text with OCR, tags scenes and objects, and builds embeddings for semantic search. Everything is computed locally with Whisper, CLIP and an on-device language model, so no account, API key or upload is involved. The core path can be verified: a built-in privacy check reports zero external connections while the main features run. Search is the centre of the product and it offers more than a dozen modes. You can describe a moment in plain language, search by a sample image, look for a colour or mood, locate a named person or brand logo, find every mention of an organisation, or jump to a specific speaker. Results resolve to exact timestamps. A local Ask assistant answers conversational questions across the whole library and cites the clips it read. Meetings mode transcribes live from a microphone or a browser tab, and on Mac it can capture both sides of a Zoom, Teams or Meet call without a bot joining. The same library feeds three other areas. Memory imports a ChatGPT or Claude data export, or a folder of Markdown notes, so past conversations sit alongside your media and can be asked about or deleted on demand. Create is a timeline editor with transcript-based cutting, caption burn-in, reframing and export to Premiere, Resolve or Final Cut as FCPXML or EDL. Pro adds storyboard assembly and automatic highlight reels. The audience is broad: podcasters digging for a quote across hundreds of episodes, editors hunting b-roll, journalists citing a timestamp, legal teams that cannot let recordings leave the machine, and anyone with a lifetime of home video. Compared with cloud media search tools, the trade-off is local compute. Model downloads and indexing take real time and depend on your hardware. The free tier caps indexing at 10 files, and Pro is priced as a serious subscription rather than a casual purchase.

How do you use MediaFind?

  1. 1Download the desktop app
Get the build for macOS, Windows or Linux from the download links. There is no account to create and no API key to paste.
  2. 2Pick your models on first run
Choose a transcription engine and assistant model that match your machine, trading speed against accuracy. Models download once and then run offline.
  3. 3Add a folder of media
Point MediaFind at a folder of video, audio or photos. While the app is open it watches the folder and indexes new files once copying finishes, which can be switched off in Settings.
  4. 4Search and confirm a moment
Describe the moment you remember, or search by image, logo, speaker or on-screen text. Results link to the exact timestamp for a one-click check.
  5. 5Ask your library a question
Use the on-device assistant for questions that span several files. Answers cite the clips they drew on, so you can verify each claim.
  6. 6Connect an AI agent over MCP
In Settings, open Connect to AI agents to let Claude, Claude Code or Cursor search the same library. Your files stay in place and the assistant receives only what it requests.
