What is Plask?

Plask is a change pose tool that turns ordinary video into 3D character animation. Plask is an AI motion capture tool that turns uploaded video into 3D character animation, with an in-browser editor for lighting, camera and post-processing, support for GLB, FBX, VRM and PMX models, and export to FBX, BVH or GLB for Blender, Unreal Engine and Maya.

Plask is a browser based motion capture studio that converts video footage into 3D character animation. You upload a clip recorded on a phone or pulled from elsewhere, the AI extracts body motion from the performer, and that motion is retargeted onto a character model inside the scene editor. From there you light the shot, move the camera, add post-processing effects and render a video or export a rigged asset. The whole pipeline sits in one workspace rather than being split across tools. The tool is aimed at game studios, indie animators, VTubers, marketers and anyone producing animated content without a mocap stage or a suit. Imported models can be GLB, FBX (version 7100 or later), VRM 0.0 or PMX, with MMD and VRM characters getting physics for hair and cloth plus automatic blinking. Imported files need a mesh, a skinned skeleton, a T-pose rest position and at least 24 bones, with retargeting optimized around a 52 bone humanoid layout. Videos cap at 100 MB and 9,000 frames of extraction. In practice the workflow is extraction first, then scene work. Hand animation can be switched on to capture fingers in V1, multi-person tracking handles several performers at once (roughly five is the recommendation), and you can pick a single person to follow in V2. Credits are consumed per frame, with multi-person costing more than single-person. Once satisfied, you export FBX, BVH or GLB for Blender, Unreal Engine or Maya, or render a finished video with motion blur, depth-of-field and tone mapping applied. Plask competes with suit-based mocap services and video mocap tools from larger vendors, and its differentiators are the self-serve editor, the MMD and VTuber friendly model support, and API access for embedding pose capture in other applications. Live camera capture for Blender and Unreal requires macOS 14 or later, an internet connection and API credits. Subscribers own the intellectual property created in the tool.

How do you use Plask?

  1. 1Create an account and open the motion workspace
Sign up with an email address and log in to the motion app. New accounts start on the free tier so you can test extraction before paying.
  2. 2Upload a video clip
Bring in phone footage or an online clip under the size limit, then choose extraction options such as T-pose start, hand animation or multi-person tracking.
  3. 3Import a character model
Drag a GLB, FBX, VRM 0.0 or PMX file into the viewport, or use the Import button in the Outliner. The model needs a mesh, a skinned skeleton in T-pose and at least 24 bones.
  4. 4Extract motion and apply it to the character
Run extraction, preview the resulting animation, then apply the motion to your imported character and correct any mismatches in the scene.
  5. 5Dress the scene and render or export
Set lighting and camera moves, add motion blur, vignette or depth-of-field, then render a video or export FBX, BVH or GLB to continue elsewhere.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Video to motion extraction runs in the browser with no mocap suit or special hardwareAI
  • Imports VRM and PMX avatars with physics for hair and cloth plus automatic blinkingAI
  • Scene editor includes lighting, camera controls, motion blur, depth-of-field and tone mappingAI
  • Exports FBX, BVH and GLB that open in Blender, Unreal Engine and MayaAI
  • Subscribers keep full intellectual property rights to animations they createAI

Cons

  • Credits are burned per frame, and multi-person extraction costs three times the single-person rateAI
  • Videos over 100 MB must be trimmed before upload, and extraction is capped at 9,000 framesAI
  • Retargeting is strongest with the recommended 52 bone humanoid skeleton, so unusual rigs need cleanupAI
  • Hand and finger tracking only works with the V1 extraction modelAI
  • Plask Live camera capture requires macOS 14 or later, an internet connection and API creditsAI
