What is Smudge?

Smudge is an image extractor tool. An iPhone, iPad and Mac app for picking colours, converting them to HEX, RGB and Swift, and organising them into shared project palettes, with AI palette generation and image colour extraction behind a subscription.

Developer Colour Palette is an Apple only utility from Smudge for the colour work that sits between design and code. A colour picker lets you select a shade by eye or type in a value, and the app immediately shows the matching HEX, RGB and Swift code so the same colour can move from a mockup into a project. Any code can be copied with a single tap. Recently used colours resurface automatically, and colours you return to often can be pinned to favourites. The organisational side is where the app separates itself from a basic converter. Colours sit inside named palettes, one per project or brand, and each swatch can carry a name describing its role plus notes on the palette as a whole. Everything syncs to the cloud and appears across the user's Apple devices. Palettes can also be shared with designers or clients, with permissions set per person for reading, adding, editing and removing. Incoming invitations land in their own section, and the app keeps created and received palettes clearly apart. The AI layer handles inspiration. A magnified picker samples a precise colour from an imported image, logo or style guide, while automatic extraction scans that image and proposes its dominant colours as a new palette. An assistant accepts plain phrases such as a landscape or an object and returns plausible shades, then names the resulting palette after the search. Both AI features need an active subscription and are capped at 100 uses per month. Beginners will find the interface immediate, since there is nothing to configure before a first colour is copied. Teams that already live in Apple hardware get the most from the sharing and sync model; anyone working across Windows or Android has no native option here.

  2. 2Pick or enter a colour
Use the built in picker to choose a shade, or type a value to see it converted to HEX, RGB and Swift code, then copy the code with a single tap.
  3. 3Build a project palette
Create a palette for one project or brand, add colours to it, name each swatch by its role and write notes to record how the palette is used.
  4. 4Extract colours from an image
Import a logo, style guide or photo from the library, files or camera, sample an exact shade with the magnified picker, or let AI detect the dominant colours.
  5. 5Generate a palette from a phrase
Open the AI Assistant and enter a scene or object such as a named city taxi. Review the returned shades and save them as a palette named after the phrase.

  6. 6Share and set permissions
Invite designers or clients to a palette and choose whether each person can read, add, edit or remove. Accept incoming invitations to add shared palettes to your list.
