What is ego (lite)?

ego (lite) is a free Chromium browser for Mac that lets AI agents like Claude Code and Codex automate tasks in your logged-in sessions, in their own parallel Spaces, without disturbing your own browsing.

ego (lite) is a Chromium-based browser designed to be shared between a person and their AI coding agents. Instead of launching a blank, separate browser for each automation job, agents such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Kiro, Hermes Agent and OpenClaw drive the same browser the user already has, including its logged-in sessions, tabs and saved state. The agent works in its own Space, so the human's tabs are left alone while tasks run in the background. The connection happens through ego-browser, a skill installed once on the Mac. After onboarding, typing /ego-browser in a supported agent and describing the job is enough to start. The agent then runs small JavaScript snippets that perform several in-page actions at once, rather than issuing one tool call at a time. The vendor claims complex tasks finish up to 3.45x faster than agent-browser with fewer tokens, and reports leading results on its own open Real-World Bench. A semantic snapshot built inside a custom Chromium engine is said to reach cross-origin iframes, shadow DOM and embedded widgets such as Stripe, Salesforce and Intercom, which shim-based approaches often miss. Typical uses shown on the site include social media actions on X, LinkedIn, Threads, Reddit, Instagram and Facebook, bookings, shopping and finance research, SaaS back-office work, internal tools, issue triage and browser testing. Because it imports an existing Chrome setup in one click and can serve as a default browser, agents run into fewer captchas, 2FA prompts and SSO redirects. Data is stored locally. Within the field, ego (lite) sits between browser automation frameworks like Browser Use or Puppeteer, cloud browsers like Browserbase, browser extensions and AI-native browsers like Comet or Dia. Its comparison table argues that it combines any-agent support, real logins, parallel multitasking and a free price. It currently ships for Mac only, with a Windows notification list, and reusable skills are listed as coming soon. A separate ego product is positioned as a personal agent across devices.
