What is Finest?

Finest is an AI gateway that measures which cheaper model can handle each of your routes at your quality bar, switches only when proven, and charges 25% of verified savings with no markup on provider pricing.

Finest is an AI gateway that sits between an application and its model providers and tries to lower the cost of each request without lowering quality. Instead of relying on public leaderboards, it measures on the customer's own traffic which model, or which team of models, a given job actually needs. It then serves the lowest-cost configuration that clears a quality bar the customer sets, and it shows both the original price and the price paid on every request. In practice the setup is meant to be light: one base URL and the SDK a team already uses. Behind that endpoint, a gate checks each route and moves work to a cheaper model only when the evidence supports it. The homepage demo shows requests such as summarising a filing or classifying a ticket being served by smaller Gemini models, while others are served as asked. When a cheaper answer fails, the request is escalated and Finest absorbs the cost of that escalation. The gate re-verifies routes whenever a new model is released, so earlier proof is not trusted after a version changes. The pitch also covers related cost levers such as capping output, trimming pasted context, placing cache breakpoints and splitting a large call into cheaper legs. A second product, Finest Code, targets Claude Code users. It keeps the same Claude Code workflow and adds model choices such as Finest Frontier and Finest Workhorse, with a running receipt of spend, pinned cost and sealed swaps on each request. The audience is engineering teams with meaningful API bills who want savings they can verify. Pricing is provider rates with no markup, and Finest takes 25% of the savings it proves, so nothing is charged when nothing is saved. Compared with static routers or manual model swapping, the distinguishing idea is evidence-based switching with a published research basis in the Request Compiler paper.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Charges only 25% of savings it proves, with no fee when nothing is savedAI
  • Provider pricing passes through with no markupAI
  • Routing decisions are based on your own traffic rather than public leaderboardsAI
  • Works through one base URL and your existing SDK, so integration is lightAI
  • Shows both prices on every request and re-verifies routes after each model releaseAI

Cons

  • Savings depend on your traffic; workloads that truly need frontier models may see little benefitAI
  • Routing all requests through a third-party gateway adds a dependency and a data path to reviewAI
  • The 25% savings share could be costly at large volumes compared with a self-built routerAI
  • Quality bar and escalation behavior are only described at a high level on the homepageAI
  • Finest Code focuses on Claude Code, so other coding assistants are not clearly coveredAI
