What is Melody.ml?

Melody.ml is an audio editing tool. Melody ML is a hosted stem separation tool built on the Demucs model. Upload a song and download vocals, drums, bass and other stems, or a vocal and instrumental pair. Two songs are free, then pay-per-song credits.

Melody ML is a browser-based audio source separation service. A user uploads a finished song, and the service splits it into individual stems: vocals, drums, bass and a remaining group labelled "other" that holds synths and other instruments. It can also return a simpler two-way split, a vocal track alongside an instrumental. The point is to give people raw material for remixing, practice, sampling and karaoke-style backing tracks without access to the original studio multitracks. Under the hood, the service is built on Demucs, the open-source separation model released by Facebook Research. Melody ML wraps that model in a hosted interface, so nobody needs to install Python, manage GPU drivers or run command-line tools. The workflow is short: create an account (email or Google sign-in), upload a file, wait for processing, then download the results. Supported inputs are MP3, WAV, FLAC and Ogg/Vorbis, with a ceiling of 100 MB per file and 10 minutes per song. Processed files remain available for download for one month. The audience is mostly bedroom producers, DJs, remixers, musicians who want to learn a part by ear, and hobbyists who want an acapella or a backing track. Because the model underneath is a well-known open-source one, results should be comparable to other Demucs-based services, so the choice comes down to convenience and cost rather than a unique algorithm. Pricing is pay-per-song rather than a subscription. Two songs are free, after which each song costs about fifty cents, sold as credit packs of 10, 20 or 50 songs through card or PayPal. Compared with broader tools that bundle stem splitting with mastering, DAW plugins or mobile apps, Melody ML is narrow and minimal: it does one job, with no editing, no mixing and no API described on the site. Uploaded songs stay the property of the user, who also carries the copyright responsibility for what is uploaded.

How do you use Melody.ml?

  1. 1Create an account
Sign up with an email address and password, or use the Google sign-in option on the homepage. An account is needed to upload and to track credits.
  2. 2Check your file
Make sure the song is MP3, WAV, FLAC or Ogg/Vorbis, under 100 MB and no longer than 10 minutes. Files outside those limits produce an error.
  3. 3Upload the song
Use the Upload Song control and choose the split you want: full stems (vocals, drums, bass, other) or a vocals and instrumental pair.
  4. 4Download the stems
When processing finishes, download the separated tracks. They remain available for one month, so save them to your own storage.
  5. 5Add credits when needed
After the two free songs, buy a pack of 10, 20 or 50 songs by card or PayPal to keep processing tracks.
