Learn moreLocal AI that renames and sorts files by what is inside them

RenameClick is a Mac and Windows desktop app that renames and sorts documents, images and spoken audio by their content. It runs offline with a built-in local model, supports cloud and self-hosted providers, and shows every suggestion for review before applying.
RenameClick is a desktop app for Mac and Windows that reads the contents of documents and images, then proposes clear filenames and destination folders in place of cryptic ones. A scan called 8a095-4d0f6a90008b.pdf can become Blood_Test_Results.pdf, and nothing changes on disk until the user reviews the suggestion and confirms it. Spoken audio such as voice notes, interviews and lectures can also be named from a local transcription of what is said. The tool is aimed at people with cluttered download folders, scanned paperwork, photo dumps and recordings: office staff, researchers, freelancers and anyone who keeps files long term. Three modes cover the common jobs: rename only, categorize only with a sorting preset, or rename and move in one step. Folders can be chosen through content categories, metadata paths or by matching existing folders. Auto Flow watches chosen folders while the app runs and can apply changes automatically, though it can also be left in suggestion mode for inspection. An indexing feature lets a user search a folder by describing a document or image, then rename it directly from the results. Custom Instructions allow a specific filename structure, with fields, order and language, and generated names are available in a dozen languages. Processing location is a central choice. The built-in Local AI runs on the device and works offline after a one-time model download, with no per-use API costs. Alternatively, users can connect Ollama or LM Studio servers, bring their own keys for OpenAI, Google AI or Alibaba Cloud, or add any OpenAI-compatible endpoint. Cloud options are limited to the direct builds and are absent from the Mac App Store version. Among alternatives, RenameClick sits between rule-based bulk renamers that only manipulate patterns and cloud document platforms that require uploading files. Its niche is content-aware naming with a privacy-first default, a free tier capped at 100 successful changes per month, and a low-cost subscription or one-time lifetime license for heavier use.
