What is Resend Agents?

Resend Agents is a coding tool. Resend Agents lets AI agents and coding tools send and receive email through a hosted MCP server, CLI, SDKs or REST, with per-tool guides for Cursor, Claude Code, Replit, Lovable and more.

Resend Agents is the part of Resend's email platform aimed at AI agents and the coding tools that build with them. The pitch is that an agent should need nothing more than an API key to send and receive email, whichever interface it prefers: a hosted MCP server, a command-line tool, language SDKs or the plain REST API. The page also offers an llms.txt file so models can read the documentation directly. The offering is organised around where the agent lives. Coding agents such as Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, Devin, GitHub Copilot, Zed and Warp each get a dedicated guide, as do app builders like Lovable, Base44, Replit, Bolt, v0 and Anything. A third group covers personal agents, including OpenClaw, Hermes Agent and Grok Bot, which are given an inbox they can send from, receive into and manage from a chat app. Depending on the host, the setup is a plugin, an agent skill, a pasted API key or an MCP connection. In practice, the hosted MCP server is the central piece. An agent connects to it with the API key as a Bearer token, or runs it locally through npx, and then gets natural-language access to more than 85 tools covering sending, contacts, audiences and logs. Inbound routing forwards replies sent to a domain to a webhook, so an agent can read a response and act on it. React Email support lets agents write templates the same way they write the rest of an application. Resend Agents suits developers and small teams who want agent-driven email without managing mail infrastructure. Compared with traditional email APIs designed around human-operated dashboards and forms, the emphasis here is on agent-native interfaces and on guides for each popular tool. It is not a standalone product with its own account: it runs on the main Resend service and shares that service's limits and pricing.

How do you use Resend Agents?

  1. 1Create a Resend account and API key
Sign up for Resend and generate an API key. That key is the only credential an agent needs for any of the supported interfaces.

  2. 2Choose your agent's integration route
Open the guide matching your tool, such as Cursor, Claude Code or Replit, to see whether it uses a plugin, a skill or a plain SDK install.

  3. 3Connect the MCP server
Point the agent at the hosted server at mcp.resend.com/mcp with the API key as a Bearer token, or run it locally with npx.

  4. 4Ask the agent to send a test email
Prompt the agent in plain language to send a message from a verified domain and confirm it arrives and appears in the logs.
  5. 5Set up inbound routing for replies
Configure receiving so replies to your domain are forwarded to a webhook your agent can read and respond to.

  • Dedicated setup guides for many coding agents, app builders and personal agentsAI
  • Inbound email routing lets agents read replies and act on themAI
  • Free plan requires no credit card and covers small agent projectsAI
  • Several interfaces (MCP, CLI, SDKs, REST) all work from a single API keyAI

Cons

  • Locked to the Resend platform, so there is no option to use another email providerAI
  • Giving an agent a full-access API key carries risk if prompts or tools misbehaveAI
  • Inbound handling depends on a webhook endpoint you must host and secure yourselfAI
