What is Unfurl?

Unfurl is an education tool that turns any YouTube video into a guide, tutor and action plan. Unfurl turns YouTube videos into chaptered, transcript-grounded guides with a typed or voice tutor, a SMART action plan, a shareable infographic, and classroom materials (deck, quiz, handout).

Unfurl is a web app that converts YouTube videos into structured, transcript-grounded study guides. Paste a link, or up to five links that are synthesized into a single guide (up to three hours combined), and the service transcribes the footage, splits it into chapters with skill levels, and writes a readable guide whose timestamps point back to the exact moment in the source video. Each guide comes with a chat tutor that answers from the transcript rather than the open web. Questions can be typed or spoken in a real-time voice conversation, and cited answers link to the second in the player where the point was made. On top of the guide, Unfurl drafts a SMART action plan shaped around the user's goal, schedule and skill level, plus a hand-illustrated, sketchnote-style infographic that can be downloaded as a PNG. Generation usually takes 5 to 20 minutes, and an email arrives when the guide is ready. The audience is broad: self-learners who never finish long courses, students working through lecture playlists, hobbyists following recipes or workout videos, builders studying business breakdowns, and teams turning recorded sessions into onboarding material. Teachers and trainers get a Teach tab that produces a presentation deck with speaker notes (viewable in the browser or exported as .pptx), a quiz with a printable answer key, and a one-page handout pitched at a chosen audience level. Guides can be shared by unlisted link, kept in a searchable library, and generated from Telegram. Pricing runs on credits. New accounts get a seven-day trial that covers a first guide and action plan, after which users can buy non-expiring credit packs or choose a monthly plan. Compared with plain YouTube summarizers, Unfurl aims at action rather than recap. Compared with flashcard-centered study tools, it favors applying material over test preparation, and the site itself points to dedicated tools for cramming.

How do you use Unfurl?

  1. 1Preview a finished guide
Open one of the example guides to see the chapters, tutor and action plan before creating an account. The chat in the examples is a short demo simulation.
  2. 2Paste a YouTube URL
Enter a YouTube link on the homepage, or add up to five links to merge a playlist or series into one guide of up to three hours.
  3. 3Sign up and wait for the guide
Create a free account (no card needed for the trial). Generation typically takes 5 to 20 minutes, and an email arrives when the guide is ready.
  4. 4Ask the tutor
Type a question or tap the mic to talk. Answers cite timestamps that jump the video player to the relevant second.
  5. 5Build the action plan and infographic
Generate a SMART action plan around your goal and schedule, then create the sketchnote-style infographic to download as a PNG.
  6. 6Create lesson materials
Open the Teach tab to produce a deck, quiz and handout pitched to your audience level, then share the guide by unlisted link.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Tutor answers come from the video transcript, with timestamp links that seek the player to the cited momentAI
  • Every guide ends in a SMART action plan, so the output is steps to follow rather than only a recapAI
  • Teach tab produces a slide deck with speaker notes, a quiz with answer key, and a handout in one placeAI
  • Real-world example guides can be opened without an account, so output quality can be judged before signing upAI
  • Pay-as-you-go credit packs never expire, so occasional users are not forced into a subscriptionAI

Cons

  • Only YouTube sources are mentioned, so lectures or recordings hosted elsewhere are not covered by the described workflowAI
  • Guides take roughly 5 to 20 minutes to generate, which is slow compared with instant transcript toolsAI
  • Credit costs stack: guide minutes, action plans, infographics, teaching materials and voice are billed separatelyAI
  • Combined source material is capped at three hours per guide, limiting use with very long coursesAI
  • Not built for flashcard-style test cramming; the site itself recommends dedicated study tools for thatAI
