Lucid is an iOS and Android app that fact checks links, screenshots and videos. Users pick whether to test for truth, buying value, AI generation or scams, and receive a verdict with named sources and a plain explanation.
Lucid is a mobile app that checks whether something you saw online holds up. A user sends a link, a screenshot or a video, then chooses one of four questions: is it true, is it worth buying, is it AI-generated, or is it a scam. The app searches for live evidence and returns a single-word verdict on a scale suited to the question, along with a plain-English explanation and the sources it relied on, listed by name so they can be read directly. The product is aimed at ordinary people who receive forwarded links, screenshots from friends and plausible-sounding headlines, and who want a neutral read before believing or sharing them. It is less a research workbench than a quick sanity check. On a phone, content can be shared into Lucid straight from another app, and a user can also type a question in their own words without attaching anything. Tagging @asklucid.app under a public Instagram post makes Lucid reply in the thread. In practice, each check costs one credit. The verdict weighs the credibility and consistency of sources rather than how many repeat a claim. After a result, users can ask follow-up questions (a fresh check runs when current information is needed), generate a paste-ready comment in a kind, neutral or blunt tone, export the verdict as an image, or reopen past checks from a saved history. A result can also suggest the next question on the same content, such as moving from a claim check to a buying check. Lucid is candid about limits. Edits made on a personal phone or a well-made face swap may come back Inconclusive, and video is judged from a single frame, so clips mixing real and generated footage can read as genuine. Among alternatives, it sits between general chatbots and dedicated newsroom fact-checking services: narrower than an open-ended assistant, but built around evidence, named sources and a fixed verdict scale. It is available on iOS and Android, with a free tier and paid options for heavier use.
