Runway is a creative platform and model lab offering a cloud workspace for AI video, image and audio, a developer API, and a robotics simulation toolkit, all built on its own Gen-4.5 and GWM-1 models.

Runway is a company building what it calls Real-World Intelligence, a family of models meant to understand, simulate and act in the world. On top of those models it runs three separate platforms, each aimed at a different kind of buyer, which makes it broader than the video generators it is usually compared with. Runway Creative is the product most visitors will use. It is a cloud-based workspace for generating and editing video, images and audio in one place, aimed at individuals as well as teams of any size. The homepage says it is used by more than 60 million creatives, and it can be tried free with cancellation at any time. Mobile apps for iPhone and Android sit alongside the web workspace, so basic creation does not require a desktop. Enterprises are directed to a sales route, and a time-limited offer of two months of free usage was displayed at the time of review. Runway Dev is the API platform for developers. It exposes Runway's models, plus models from other labs, along with tooling intended to produce production-ready output at scale. Documentation and API key access live on a dedicated developer site. Runway Robotics is the most unusual piece: a toolkit for running policy inference through photorealistic simulation, covering evaluation and synthetic data generation, all powered by its GWM-1 General World Model and fitted to a customer's hardware through a sales conversation. Recent announcements show where the company is heading. Runway Ads generates on-brand video and image ads and publishes them to Meta, Google and TikTok. Runway is also listed in the OpenAI Marketplace for eligible enterprise buyers, is a launch partner for Claude Motion, and has released Gen-4.5 as its flagship video model and Praxis-1 as an open-weight world action model for robots. Among alternatives, Runway competes with other generative video and creative suites, but its research arm, API and robotics offerings position it closer to a model lab than a single-purpose editor. Teams that only need quick clips may find the scope larger than necessary.
