What these tools do
Rewrite CV tools take the document you already have and produce a better one. Depending on the product, that means rewording weak bullet points, matching the language of a specific job posting, checking for the keywords applicant tracking systems look for, or rebuilding the layout so it parses cleanly. Several also write a cover letter from the same material.
They are built for job seekers who searched for a way to rewrite my CV and do not want to start from an empty page: career changers, recent graduates, and anyone applying to several roles who needs a different emphasis for each. They replace the manual cycle of editing a Word file for every application, and for a first draft they can stand in for a paid CV writer.
How to choose one
Start with the input. Some tools are builders that ask you to enter your history into their editor, while others work from an uploaded document or a stored profile you reuse. If the CV already exists, check that the tool accepts it rather than forcing a re-entry.
Next, decide between one general rewrite and per-job tailoring. A single polish suits a one-off application. If you apply widely, look for tools that tailor to each posting and keep a reusable record of your experience.
Then check the practical details:
- ATS handling: keyword checks, scoring and templates meant to be read by hiring software.
- Export: PDF only, or DOCX as well if recruiters ask for an editable file.
- Cost: free tools, freemium plans with limits, and subscriptions differ widely, and some require your own AI key.
- Extras: cover letters, feedback on weak spots, or application tracking.

Common questions
Can AI rewrite my CV for free?
Yes, within limits. ATS Helper and Roastmyresu.me are listed as free, and several others, such as Resume Now and Veddy AI, have freemium plans. Free tiers typically cap features or exports, so check what the plan includes before investing time in a draft.
How do I rewrite my CV for a specific job?
Pick a tool with job-specific tailoring, such as Jobsuit AI or ResumeBuild, and supply the posting alongside your CV. The tool compares the two and adjusts wording and keywords. Read the result carefully, since the claims must still be true of you.
Is a CV the same as a resume?
The terms overlap, and many tools use them interchangeably. The tools here handle both, so the choice depends on the format and length conventions of the country and employer you are applying to.
When to look elsewhere
If the document is finished and the bottleneck is sending it out, Automatic Job Apply covers tools that submit applications for you. If the CV is ready and an interview is next, Interview Preparation is the better match.
